Katherine "Kat" Miller
The announcement of Katherine Miller being appointed to the role of Deputy Director for NOVS came from Executive Director Caleb Cage in a welcome letter on April 2. "It is a great honor to announce a wonderful new addition to the NOVS Team," said Cage. "I hope you will join me in welcoming her to the team." Mrs. Miller was raised in Reno and served 34 years in the United States Army. Beginning service as an enlisted Soldier, she culminated her military service as a colonel with assignments as a military police brigade commander serving in the United States and in Afghanistan; and as the Commander of the Army Corrections Command. After retiring in 2010 she taught Bachelors and Masters level courses at the University of Maryland and the University of Nevada, Reno. Her education includes a Master’s of Science degree from the U.S. Army War College and a Master’s of Public Administration from Roosevelt University in Chicago. “It’s an honor to be appointed by Governor Sandoval and I appreciate his confidence and the confidence of those that took part in the process,” said Mrs. Miller. “Veterans issues are important and with approximately 1 in 9 Nevadans being veterans, these issues have the ability to impact a large population of our state. To have the opportunity to serve in a state where veterans are such a large part of the cultural fabric is gratifying and encouraging. Carole Turner has had a large impact while in this role and I hope I can do the position as much honor as she did during her tenure.” Her contact information will be added to the website and she will work from the NOVS office in Las Vegas.
