Congresswoman Berkley Addresses Legislature

Congresswoman Berkley addressed the Nevada Legislature tonight in a joint session.  In usual form, the Congresswoman breathlessly hopped from subject to subject outlining what she and the Legislators could do for "her Nevadans."

Perhaps no subject was covered in greater detail and more frequently than Nevada's veterans.  She is proud of the money she's been able to procure for the Las Vegas VA Medical Center.  While Nevada will receive over half of President Bush's major construction money to complete the project, "the other 49 states will have to share the remainder."  The 1500 GWOT veterans in Clark County deserve nothing less.

She promised veterans would not pay increased prescription co-pays or enrollment fees to access the VA healthcare system.  She promised to make sure adequate money was budgeted for the 20,000 GWOT veterans who would return home missing at least one limb.

She thanked everyone currently serving or anyone who had ever served for their "inconceivable sacrifices" for our country.  We couldn't have asked for a better speech if we had written it ourselves.  It definitely further pressed veteran care and our issues to the legislators.

Homegrown Navy videos depict

Sometimes the public (and veterans) fail to see another side of service in the military.  Two videos are pitching Navy life in a way the professional marketers are envying.

Hey Ya!

Pump It.

Now the challenge will be for the other military branches to counter.

SB17 Passes Senate

In a very quick process, SB17 passed the Senate today 20-0.  Less than seven days after its introduction in the Senate Transportation Committee, it has now passed on to the Assembly.

SB17 was sponsored by Senators Weiner & Care and allows those veterans who have Purple Heart, Pearl Harbor Survivor, Ex-Prisoner of War, and Disabled Veteran license plates the ability to purchase a second set of plates for an additional vehicle.

Thanks to all who have helped push the bill this far.  We're half way towards correcting this injustice within the veteran license plate language.

Successful Week

Nevada's veterans had success  last week demonstrating their value and needs in the Nevada Legislature.  After a hearing before the Assembly Ways & Means and Senate Finance Committees, we spent some time talking with several legislators reviewing our presentation and anticipating the needs of our future activities.

In all, we were very well received and as more than one legislator mentioned, "We demonstrated we need help."  I want to thank all of those veteran advocates in attendance.  Unlike any other agency, it's critical the legislators see the beneficiaries as well as the agency staff to understand the importance of their decisions and the impacts they can have on America's Heroes.

Keep up the great work!

System Test

The system is functional.
