SB219 Passes!

After 14 years and more efforts by veteran advocates than can possibly be imagined, SB219 was passed by the Nevada Assembly 41-0 today.  SB219 creates a State Veterans Gift Account and directs that all money earned through the purchase of veteran license plates will be deposited to that account for veteran outreach.  Prior to this bill, the money was either all deposited to offset operational expenses, or only a portion was gifted to the veterans.

Thank you to great efforts of all veteran advocates, but some deserve some additional credit.  Frankie Finlayson originally contacted the office and was there presenting testimony on behalf of the bill at the first hearing.  Thank you to the veterans who faithfully attended each hearing and provided the necessary push when it was needed.  Finally thank you to the efforts of Assemblymen Manendo, Oceguera, and Stewart.  Their careful monitoring of this bill and behind the scenes efforts assured the bill made it past several very close deadlines.

Upon signature of the governor, we can finally rest easy and note, the veterans license plate program is truly "Veterans helping Veterans."

Thank you all.

SB219 Clears Committee

I've just returned from Carson City with another win.  SB219 - the veterans license plate bill and gift account measure was passed without opposition by the Assembly Government Affairs Committee this morning.

Through the relentless efforts of Assemblyman Stewart and support of Assemblyman Oceguera we finally will fix the veterans license plates and allow veterans to support their fellow veterans.  Thank you to all who helped in this endeavor, with floor passage and referral to the Governor, we may finally have this issue behind us.
