No Barriers Warriors

Benefit Category: Federal

No Barriers Warriors offers a list of experiences.

No Barriers Warriors is a part of No Barriers USA, whose mission is to unleash the potential of the human spirit. No Barriers Warriors empowers veterans and transitioning service members with disabilities, and survivors of the fallen, to overcome barriers and unleash their potential. Experiences serve as both an opportunity for growth and catalyst for change, as these brave men and women stretch boundaries, build teams, innovate through adversity and step up to lead and serve others.

No Barriers Warriors expeditions use the mountain as both a metaphor and a training ground. Experiences are comprised of three phases: comprehensive preparation, the transformative event, and meaningful reintegration. Every experience is geared toward providing a catalyst for change, establishing a lifelong ropes team and giving warriors the tools to live a No Barriers Life.

Our expeditions have taken us to Nepal, Ecuador, Peru, the South Pole and locations around the U.S. including Mt. Whitney, the highest peak in the contiguous United States. Most recently, our 2015 Warriors to Summits expedition took us to Gannett Peak, WY in the Wind River Range. We are proud to announce that the team reached their summit at 12,800′ on September 11, 2015.

These expeditions are offered at no cost to veterans!

Veterans in Care

The Veterans in Care (VIC) initiative is an effort to find our “silent veteran heroes” who may reside in community settings, and are not enrolled in the VA system or are not aware of benefits and services. The Nevada Department of Veterans Services has launched a “first of its kind” initiative that has not been done in any other state.  This is a continuation of the commitment to have Nevada be the most veteran friendly state in the nation.

The vision of VIC currently encompasses three related components:

1) Education on Benefits and Programs for veterans;

2) Veteran Culture Education and Training for facility staff; and

3) Quality of Life Recognition and Communication for the veterans.

In 2017, the “Veterans In Care” (VIC) Program expanded to “home care” partners . It is proving to be heartwarming and beneficial to the veterans and the facility staff and demonstrates that we as a state truly care about those who served our country and those who provide care to our veteran population.

Do you know of a home bound veteran or an assisted living, skilled care facility that may be interested in the Veterans in Care program? For more information, to volunteer, or schedule an event, contact Rachel Jelenic at jelenicr@veterans.nv.gov
