Major Kevin Burns, United States Marine Corps, Retired, kicked into high gear. As one of the founders of the United Veterans Legislative Council (UVLC), he lobbies lawmakers and testifies on behalf of legislation benefiting veterans. The 2017 Chair of the UVLC also kept the veterans’ community informed on bills and votes impacting them. But Burns’ passion for helping veterans extends beyond the Nevada State Legislative Building. He’s the coordinator of the Veterans Resource Center at Western Nevada College, which he helped establish in January 2013. He also helped implement the Veterans Integration Program at the Warm Springs Correctional Center.

NDVS (Nevada Department of Veterans Services) is currently dealing with a large number of requests.

VSO intake appointments are taking about 30–90 days to schedule. The wait time depends on which location you choose and appointment availability. If you have already submitted a request, you may need to wait longer than usual for someone to contact you. It does not necessarily mean your request has a problem, it’s primarily a notice about the current backlog.
