9/11 Heroes Run: Travis Manion Foundation, “If Not Me, Then Who…”

On Saturday, September 12th the NDVS outreach team was proud to participate in the 2026 9/11 Heroes Run, Walk, and Ruck with the Travis Manion Foundation.  To commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11, the Heroes Run brough together veterans, first responders, service members, and community members to honor the heroes who stepped up to serve that day, the lives lost, and the heroes that have continued to serve.

This year’s 9/11 Run was dedicated to Sergeant Sharif Keenan Morgan, a United State Marine Corps veteran who joined the marines in 2000 after graduating from Valley High School in Las Vegas.

Sharif served multiple tours in Iraq, earning the Purple Heart after surviving an IED blast, and continued his commitment to service as a corrections, probation, and parole officer. Sharif ultimately lost his battle to the invisible weight of PTSD, but on September 12th, our community came together alongside his family to honor Sharif and carry his legacy of service forward to keep the promise that “We will Never Forget” his story, service, sacrifice, and the lives of so many others lost since 9/11.

NDVS (Nevada Department of Veterans Services) is currently dealing with a large number of requests.

VSO intake appointments are taking about 30–90 days to schedule. The wait time depends on which location you choose and appointment availability. If you have already submitted a request, you may need to wait longer than usual for someone to contact you. It does not necessarily mean your request has a problem, it’s primarily a notice about the current backlog.
