Hundreds gathered outside on the Capitol Complex grounds in Carson City to dedicate Nevada’s Battle Born Memorial. The dedication ceremony of this Memorial to Nevada’s Fallen drew hundreds from across the State. The crowd included nearly a hundred family members who knew this sacrifice personally as they had a loved one’s name on the memorial.
There are 895 Nevadans on the memorial that made the ultimate sacrifice, dating back to The Civil War and to present day, including U.S. Army Captain Joshua Byers. He was killed when a homemade bomb was placed underneath his Humvee outside Ramadi, Iraq in 2003. His father Lloyd Byers said this memorial means the world to him.
“We were best friends. We were so close. And when I see the time spent and the dedication, it's just an honor for me to stand here," Byers says.
The dedication ceremony received a great amount of media coverage. Here are some of the stories.
