BRAVE: Connecting Veterans and Families to Mental Health Care

By Mya Mitchell, NDVS Health Program Specialist

The Nevada Department of Veterans Services BRAVE Program is geared towards improving and expanding access to mental health care and support for Veterans and their family members. The program works to connect veterans and their direct family members to free mental health treatment resources, as well as any requested support services to combat other barriers. BRAVE is a grant funded program awarded through the Department of Public and Behavioral Health.

Eligibility:

  • Veteran or spouse/ child of a veteran
  • No discharge status requirement, no DD-214 required to be in the program.

How the Program Can Help:

  • Referral to a mental health provider for treatment through Neubauer Mental Health Services.
  • 8 free sessions will be provided by the program
  • Wrap-around case management services through the program’s LMSW
  • Referrals to other services such as employment support, housing support, and peer support.
  • Connection with a Veterans Service Officer for earned benefits through the VA, if requested.
  • Transportation assistance through bus passes is available if requested.

If you or someone you know is looking for free, confidential mental health support and treatment, please reach out to BRAVE@veterans.nv.gov.

NDVS (Nevada Department of Veterans Services) is currently dealing with a large number of requests.

VSO intake appointments are taking about 30–90 days to schedule. The wait time depends on which location you choose and appointment availability. If you have already submitted a request, you may need to wait longer than usual for someone to contact you. It does not necessarily mean your request has a problem, it’s primarily a notice about the current backlog.
