There are two June ceremonies planned to recognize and honor the recipients of the Veteran of the Month, Veteran Supporter of the Month and Youth Serving Veterans Awards.
The first ceremony will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023, beginning at 10:00 a.m. inside the lobby of the Grant Sawyer Building. (555 East Washington Ave., Las Vegas)
The recipients of the Las Vegas ceremony include:
Air Force veteran, Teresa Thurtle is the June 2023, Veteran of the Month recipient. She is a very active volunteer serving with several organizations that feed and support veterans and their families. Teresa is an example of what it means to be a Nevadan and give back to those who have served our country!
372 Training Squadron/Detachment 13 Nellis AFB is the June 2023, Veteran Supporter of the Month recipient. Members of Detachment 13 have been tremendous supporters of the Southern Nevada State Veterans Home in Boulder City providing Christmas gifts, decorations, food and more! Detachment 13 is fully invested in the wellbeing and morale of residents of the home.
Abigail Panariso is the June 2023, Youth Serving Veterans Award recipient. She is involved in numerous volunteer projects and activities. The 16-year-old, 11th grader at the College of Southern Nevada in Henderson is passionate about serving others, especially veterans and their families. She exemplifies the heart and soul of an emerging leader whose great volunteer works are already making a difference in the lives she has touched.
The second ceremony will be held on June 30, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the Old Assembly Chambers in Carson City. The recipients are:
U.S. Army veteran, James Hanson is the July 2023 Veteran of the Month recipient. The Vietnam veteran is involved in numerous volunteer projects. His volunteer work touches veterans involved with Nevada’s Honor Flight Program, Reno’s VA Medical Center, and the Northern Nevada State Veterans Home.
U.S. Army veteran, William Grey is the August 2023 Veteran of the Month. He is an active supporter of the Gary Meckler Holiday Gift Basket Program, Reno Elks Lodge #597, Reno’s VA, Homeless Veterans Stand-Down, Washoe County Amateur Radio Emergency Services, and more! William doesn’t shy away from stepping up to the plate to make sure that whatever is needed gets done! That attitude even extends to his volunteer work for the local Public Broadcasting Station KNPB. He serves as a camera operator in the studio during telethons that raise funds for good causes!
Our congratulations go out to the recipients, and we encourage you to attend one of the ceremonies to show these amazing volunteers your support.
