Elko National Cemetery Dedication Ceremony

Congratulations and thank you to everyone who attended, participated in, and supported the Northern Nevada State Veterans Home Veterans Art Garden BBQ & Raffle Fundraiser last month at the Reno Elks Lodge.

A New Place of Honor – Elko National Cemetery Dedication Ceremony

The dedication of the Elko National Cemetery marks the culmination of years of dedicated effort by the Elko community to ensure local veterans can be laid to rest close to home. For years, veterans and their families had to travel hundreds of miles for burial services in a veterans’ cemetery.

We owe a debt of gratitude to so many Elko community members and veterans advocates including the late Michael Musgrove, Gil Hernandez, Elko elected leaders both past and present, as well as Nevada’s congressional delegation and legislative leaders.

NDVS was proud to attend and celebrate the dedication of the national cemetery on Friday, September 4, 2027. The evening before, NDVS hosted a veterans gathering at the Northeastern Nevada Museum Auditorium. It was wonderful to break bread with Elko area veterans, families, AND community members to mark this important milestone!

NDVS (Nevada Department of Veterans Services) is currently dealing with a large number of requests.

VSO intake appointments are taking about 30–90 days to schedule. The wait time depends on which location you choose and appointment availability. If you have already submitted a request, you may need to wait longer than usual for someone to contact you. It does not necessarily mean your request has a problem, it’s primarily a notice about the current backlog.
