NDVS- VETERANS SERVICES PROGRAM MANAGER – Reno, NV

Veterans Service Officers advise and advocate for veterans and individuals currently serving in the United States armed forces who are State residents, their spouses, widows, widowers, children, dependents, estate and personal representatives; prepare, submit and present claims and appeals for denied benefits including adjusted compensation, hospitalization, insurance, pension, disability compensation, vocational training, education or rehabilitation; provide assistance and advice to resolve problems and answer questions relating to available benefits under federal and State laws.

Under the direction of the Nevada Department of Veterans Service Deputy Director of Benefits, the Director of the Veterans Advocacy and Support Program (Veterans Services Program Manager) manages the state-wide Veterans Service Office and Nevada Veterans Advocate Programs, to include supervision, training, evaluating and selection process of staff. Responsible for addressing Legislative/Congressional inquiries and monitoring/assigning constituents’ issues, the incumbent develops program policies, procedures, and guidelines which govern the veteran’s services program and staff. Researches and develops grant proposals seeking funding to enhance support and the veterans’ services program. Oversees and designs online and in-class course development utilized to train internal/external staff and volunteers. Prepares and maintains budget goals and controls over program functions. Researches, compiles and presents statistical data and provide a variety of reports. Represents the Department in the community, legislative sessions, and at various public forums as requested by NDVS leadership. Interprets laws, statutes, regulation, and statistical data related to services for veterans; communicates effectively both orally and in writing; and performs other duties as assigned.
