Memorial Day Events Coming Up

Make sure your calendar is marked and you are set to attend the Memorial Day events hosted by NDVS. This year, Memorial Day is Monday, May 30, 2022, and there are ceremonies and activities planned at both northern and southern Nevada.

Before Memorial Day, the weekend kicks off with our Flag-In events at both State Veterans Cemeteries on Saturday, May 28. Flag-In is an annual tradition where volunteers show their respect and pay honor to our veterans by placing a small American flag on each gravesite.

This year, Flag-In volunteers will receive a commemorative “Thank You” pin, while supplies last. Groups and individuals who don’t want to miss out on their special gift are advised to arrive early or on time!

Flag-In begins at 7:00 a.m. at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City. Volunteers are asked to assemble in the southern Courtyard Chapel area where they will receive instruction on how and where to place the flags.

In Fernley, Flag-In begins at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers are asked to gather in the main area of the cemetery, near the pavilion. They too will receive instruction on proper flag placement.

On Sunday, May 29, the annual ceremony to honor Special Forces will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Monday is the big day, with the Memorial Day ceremony at the southern cemetery beginning at 1:00 p.m. You’re advised to give yourself time to park!

At the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, the Memorial Day ceremony will be held a little earlier, at 11:00 a.m. The ceremony will feature guest speaker, Jerome Washington, DAV State Commander and VFW State Judge Advocate.
