As we move into June, I want to personally invite all Nevadans to join us in honoring and remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation during Memorial Day observances at the Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemeteries in Boulder City and Fernley.
Our Memorial Day ceremonies will take place on Monday, May 25, with the northern ceremony beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley and at 1:00 p.m. at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City.
In preparation for Memorial Day, our annual Flag-In ceremonies, where volunteers place American flags at each gravesite in tribute to those we have lost, will take place Saturday, May 23, beginning at 7:00 a.m. in southern Nevada and 8:30 a.m. in northern Nevada. In Southern Nevada only, a Special Forces Ceremony will be held on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
June also brings opportunities to celebrate and support our veterans and military families. On Saturday, June 6, from noon to 4:00 p.m. at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, the Day of Gratitude will honor those who have served, those currently serving, and the families who stand beside them. This extraordinary event will feature a patriotic awards ceremony recognizing World War II veterans during the 82nd anniversary of D-Day, along with live music, entertainment, and support services. It promises to be a celebration of appreciation and community. NDVS will be there ready to connect, assist, and serve.
Registration for Day of Gratitude is required. REGISTER HERE.
Also, I encourage everyone to review the final report from the Nevada Veterans Legislative Symposia held in Elko, Reno, and Las Vegas. Veterans from across our state came together to identify and prioritize the issues and concerns they would like to see addressed legislatively, helping shape important conversations about the future of veteran services and support in Nevada. To view the report on our website, go HERE.
Finally, we want to share some exciting news from the Nevada Department of Veterans Services. NDVS has launched a newly redesigned website with a fresh look and improved navigation to better serve Nevada’s veterans, service members and their families. The updated site was created with the goal of helping veterans connect more quickly and easily to the benefits, programs, and resources they have earned through military service. We encourage you to visit the new site and explore everything it has to offer at veterans. nv.gov.
Thank you for your continued support of Nevaa’s veterans, service members, and their families. Together we remain committed to ensuring no veteran is ever alone or forgotten!
Best regards,
Col. Mary Devine (Ret.)
NDVS Director
