NDVS Employee becomes Ambassador for PREVENTS program

By Deputy Director Fred Wagar

Ms. Kim Donohue, Suicide Prevention Program Manager for Nevada Department of Veterans Services has been named the Nevada State Ambassador for the President’s Roadmap to Empower Veterans and End a National Tragedy of Suicide (PREVENTS) program.

“Kim does such an outstanding job as the Nevada Department of Veterans Services (NDVS) Suicide Prevention Program Manager and we are extremely proud of the recognition she is receiving for the hard work and commitment to build successful Governor’s and Mayor’s Challenge teams throughout our state,” said NDVS Director Kat Miller. “This ensures Kim’s work in Suicide Prevention will continue to gain momentum and have a far-reaching impact.”

According to PREVENTS Executive Director Barbara Van Dahlen, Ph.D. with the Office of the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, as Ambassador, Donahue will continue to help implement changes to the culture around mental health to prevent suicide.

State Ambassadors will represent the spirit of the initiative by helping to work with State stakeholders and educate our communities about mental health and emotional well-being in general as well as suicide prevention more specifically.

The goal of PREVENTS is to prevent suicide – among our veterans and all Americans. Ambassadors will be integral to the overall work of PREVENTS by building awareness and momentum in every state across the nation and identify opportunities at the state level by engaging possible partners and champions for PREVENTS. This includes meeting with leaders throughout Nevada.

NDVS would like to congratulate Ms. Donohue on becoming Nevada’s Ambassador to the Department of Veterans Affairs PREVENTS program.
