Non-Emergency Veterans Medical Appointment Transportation (NEV-MAT)

The Nevada Department of Veterans Services (NDVS) has developed and implemented an innovative solution to a longstanding gap in non-emergency medical transportation for Nevada’s veterans. Transportation remains a significant social determinant of health, especially in rural and frontier communities. Nevada’s veterans, particularly those living in remote, frontier, and tribal areas, face additional challenges when traveling to one of Nevada’s three Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers, especially when visually impaired, elderly, or living with a disease or disability. Non-Emergency Veteran Medical Appointment Transportation (NEV-MAT) fills the critical gap that occurs when VA or Department of Defense (DoD) shuttle services are unavailable due to staffing or vehicle limitations. This program establishes alternative, dependable transportation options to ensure Nevada veterans can access the care they have earned, to include tribal veterans in need of transportation to one of the three Nevada assigned to VA medical centers.
