We congratulate Tim Casey for being named Veteran of the Month (VOM) and Russ Childers for being recognized as Veteran Supporter for the Month (VSM) for November 2021.
Casey is a U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army veteran who works tirelessly as a Veterans Treatment Court Mentor Coordinator in Southern Nevada. He also works hard to identify and recruit other mentors for the treatment courts that prove vital in helping the courts accomplish its mission. He is also in the trenches himself helping veterans caught in the criminal justice system to navigate the court’s process and connecting them with resources that help address underlying conditions, be it homelessness or substance abuse. In accomplishing this work, he also works hard to maintain a network of resources that can be brought to bear, when needed for these veterans.
Childers has been an active member of the Nevada State Elks Association and the Las Vegas Elks Lodge 1468. He has been their representative to the VA Southern Nevada Health Care System since 2012. In this capacity he has attended the VA Volunteer Service meetings where he has helped to direct $62,000 in funds to the VA. These funds have helped cover expenses in buying a coffee cart and supplies and to pay for reading materials, and the purchase of a popcorn machine for various clinics and their accompanying waiting areas throughout the hospital. Despite all of his work with the VA Hospital he can often be found helping the Paralyzed Veterans of America with its food distribution for veterans program, cooking and serving meals at the Elks July and Thanksgiving BBQ dinners and adding to the 1,000 hours he’s volunteered at the VA’s North Western Primary Care Clinic.
