Passing of a Notable Veteran: Ramiro “Ram” Parocua


The veteran community of Nevada lost a notable veteran on August 4, 2020 in Ramiro “Ram" Parocua of Henderson. Parocua, a Past Department Commander for the Disabled American Veterans was a well-known and active member of the veteran community in southern Nevada.

Parocua enlisted in the U.S. Army in April 1964 and was initially deployed to Korea, where he trained as a combat medic and was later deployed to serve in Vietnam during the war. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in April 1967.

Years after his service, Parocua became an active member of the Disabled American Veterans Black Mountain Chapter 12.  He was elected to be the Senior Vice Commander of the chapter in 2012 and 2013 during which he was responsible for outstanding growth of the chapter membership. He was elected Chapter Commander in May 2014, serving for two years and founding the DAV Chapter 12 Black Mountain Honor Guard. Parocua was elected as the DAV Department Commander in May 2016 serving as a member of the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery Volunteer Committee and assisting in the planning of Memorial Day activities at the Cemetery.

Parocua will always be remembered as a hardworking, devoted patriot who served his country and his community while remaining devoted to his family and friends. NDVS Director Miller stated, “As a supporter of the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, his services will be missed, especially his service through the DAV Chapter 12 Honor Guard.”
