Updates for Veteran Discharge Upgrades for Navy and Marine Corps Veterans

As a result of a recent federal court decision, the Navy Discharge Review Board will need to reconsider several requests for Discharge Upgrades related to veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and Military Sexual Trauma (MST).

This decision follows a lawsuit from a Marine Iraq War Veteran who requested a discharge in 2016, stemming from his other-than honorable discharge that was a result of his use of marijuana to cope with undiagnosed PTSD.  Please read more about the specific of cases at: https://taskandpurpose.com/news/marine-sued-navy-bad-paper-discharge-won/.

For Nevada veterans who believe this may have impacted them, the article lays out two paths. The first is for veterans who applied between March 2, 2012, and Feb 15, 2022. These filings will automatically receive a reconsideration by the board. The second is for veterans who were discharged between October 1, 2001, to March 1, 2012. They are encouraged to resubmit a request to have their discharges upgraded.
