Veterans Healthcare Pocket Card Launches

The NDVS Healthcare Services team is proud to announce the launch of the Veterans Healthcare Pocket Card. This initiative is aimed at educating and informing our healthcare partners on the ways to identify veterans and engage in dialogue about their military service, identify military exposures, screen for suicide risk, and connect veterans with resources.

This pocket card is an educational tool designed specifically to ask the question, “Have You Served?” in civilian, community-based healthcare settings. Creating dialogue between healthcare providers and Nevada’s veterans can better inform care in non-VA medical centers and help ensure they are able to connect with Veteran Services Officers to access their earned benefits.

The first pocket cards were introduced on Friday, February 18th, at the Southern Nevada State Veterans Home, to students attending the PFC Nick Crombie Certified Nursing Assistant Training Academy, which is located in the home.

On Saturday, February 19th, the pocket cards were provided to attendees of the Nevada American Legion Executive Leadership meeting.

Rachel Jelenic, Healthcare Champions Program Manager, and Sarah Hogue, Suicide Prevention Program Manager, will be collaborating with communities across Nevada to educate providers and deploy this tool.
