Winnemucca Mayor’s Challenge Launch

We are excited to share that the City of Winnemucca has accepted the Mayor’s Challenge to Reduce Suicide Among Servicemembers, Veterans, and their Families (SMVF). On February 9th, Sarah Hogue, Suicide Prevention Program Manager at NDVS, along with Misty Vaughan Allen, Suicide Prevention Coordinator at the Office of Suicide Prevention, attended the Humboldt Connections meeting for the first official Mayor’s Challenge meeting. Winnemucca has an established footprint of suicide prevention efforts, and this partnership helps bring the SMVF community in as a bigger piece of their amazing work. Mayor Stone, Judge Montero, Pauline Salla, Alaine Nye, and numerous other community partners have opened the door to welcome this challenge and help reduce suicide within the veteran community.

The Mayor’s Challenge focuses on three priority areas: Identifying service members, veterans, and their families and screening for suicide; promoting connectedness and care transitions; and increasing lethal means safety and safety planning.

We are grateful for the opportunity to support the community of Winnemucca!
