Jeanette Rae Recognized as Veteran of the Month, April 2013


The Nevada Office of Veterans Services (NOVS) recognized Jeanette Rae as April’s Veteran of the Month on behalf of Governor Brian Sandoval during a presentation at the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System hospital in Reno on Tuesday May 7.

Executive Director, Caleb Cage, presented the award during the VA’s directors meeting with approximately 30 of her peers in attendance. “Mrs. Rae is an example of the committed veterans in Nevada continuing to serve in a variety of capacities throughout our state,” said Executive Director Caleb Cage.”

Rae is a member of eight veteran organizations and currently serves as the National Vice Commander Western Region for the American Legion, one of only five regional commanders in the country. In 2000, she opened the first County Veterans Service Office in Churchill County which is still serving veterans today. Rae then moved to the Nevada Office of Veterans Services and continued her services as a Service Officer and Program Manager and currently serves with the VA as the Supervisor of Patient Benefits. Rae directs of team of 15 members who assist veterans with eligibility, enrollment and decedent affairs benefits to veterans throughout Northern Nevada and Eastern California.

“Mrs. Rae’s influence on the veteran community is seen through her involvement in the many organizations she is a part of which are active in addressing veterans issues both locally and nationally,” said Cage. “Governor Brian Sandoval is an enthusiastic supporter of our efforts to honor Nevada’s veterans, and I am proud to have presented this award to Mrs. Rae on his behalf.”

The Veteran of the Month program is managed by the Nevada Office of Veterans Services under the direction of Executive Director Caleb Cage. “Board members of the Veterans Services Commission review nominations and choose a recipient during quarterly meetings for the following three month period,” stated Cage.  “Our office is very proud to staff this project on behalf of Governor Sandoval.”
