VA Thrills Las Vegas Vets with Stunning Veterans Day Car Show & BBQ

NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (November 21st, 2016) — The Veterans Day Celebration of 2016, at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in North Las Vegas, was twice the size of last year’s event. Row after row of vintage and custom vehicles thrilled onlookers. Hamburgers and hot dogs were served by charming volunteers who bent over backwards to make sure veterans attending the event were comfortable. Later in the day, a live band later regaled attendees with classic hits. It was, in a word, wonderful.

“Isn’t this such a beautiful day?” asked Virginia Gray, the VA’s Congressional Liaison in Las Vegas. ” Indeed it was. “We thought it would be a nice touch to have it under the shade of our solar array, so none of our older veterans get too hot.” That particular move was a stroke of genius, as veterans could take their time to marvel at rolling works of art. And the variation of the vehicles was staggering. A particular cream colored Corvette Stingray convertible seemed to be the fan favorite, while compact racers decked out in stripes dotted the field. There was event a converted school bus, painted with wicked green flames and given prosthetic horns.

It was a massive undertaking that took extraordinary coordination, but VA staff were ecstatic it went so well. “They (the veterans) are the only reason we exist,” said Gray.
