COVID-19 and the Southern Nevada State Veterans Home

What You Need to Know Summary: With assistance from the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System, COVID-19 testing of all residents and team members at the Southern Nevada State Veterans Home began on Tuesday, March 30th. This follows three positive test results of residents at the Home and one death of a hospitalized resident, who was tested at the hospital. Because of the scarcity of COVID-19 test kits nationwide, this marks the first opportunity for widespread testing of everyone at the Home.

Status of COVID-19 Positive Residents: Four residents who have tested positive remain in isolation. Team members caring for them are strictly following local, state and federal disease prevention protocols. They are committed to stopping the spread of the virus. The veteran who passed away died on March 28th after being transported from the home and admitted to the hospital. At the time of transfer, he was not a suspected COVID-19 case, but a subsequent hospital test revealed a positive for the COVID-19 infection. Our deepest condolences go out to his friends and family. Out of respect for his family, we are not releasing any personal information other than to say he was an 86-year-old male, a U.S. Navy veteran who bravely and honorably served in the Korean War when his country called him to duty.

24-Hour COVID-19 Update Line: NDVS has set up a COVID-19 Update Line to conveniently provide the latest information to the community, supporters, residents and families of the Home on a 24-hour basis. Simply call (702) 332-6705. The line is updated by noon, every day, 7-days a week.

It takes just a few seconds and will let everyone at the Home know you support them through this public health crisis. If your video file is too big, we are making arrangements to allow you to drop your video on our website.
