Veteran & Veteran Supporter of the Month Recipients Honored

Our congratulations go out to the recent recipients of the Veteran of the Month (VOM) and Veteran Supporter of the Month (VSM) awards. Honorees were honored on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, in a special ceremony inside the Old Assembly Chambers in Carson City. 

Nevada’s former Veterans Services Commission Chairman Bill Baumann is among the five total awardees recognized. Over the years, Mr. Baumann has spent countless hours serving in several capacities for numerous veterans organizations too many to count in this short article. He also worked alongside NDVS serving on the VSC for 17 years under four Nevada Governors and four department directors.

Bill Baumann – U.S. Air Force – September 2022, Veteran of the Month – See above.  

Michael Terry – U.S. Navy – July 2022, Veteran of the Month – Mr. Terry retired with the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. He continues to serve as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW Post 1002 in Fallon, having also served at the local, district and state levels within the organization. His volunteer work includes direct support to military members stationed at the Naval Air Station in Fallon. He has also made sure those within his community never go hungry on Christmas or Thanksgiving by preparing and serving dinners.  

Matthew Cole – U.S. Navy – November 2022, Veteran of the Month – Mr. Cole is a retired Navy Commander who brings his skills in operational planning to his position at Amazon as a Military Pathways Operations Manager. His volunteer work in support of Reno-area veterans and their families ensures the needs of veterans are met.    

Courts Assisting Military Offenders – December 2021, Veteran Supporter of the Month – This program provides a second chance for veterans who wind up on the wrong side of the law. The CAMO-RNO program is a 12-to-18 month treatment option for high risk/high need offenders when they also struggle with substance abuse or mental health issues.   

Nevada Peer Support Network, Inc. – September 2022, Veteran Supporter of the Month – The mission of this nonprofit is to provide mental health resources and support for veterans, first responders and hospital care professionals.
