They may not be aware of it themselves, but the men and women who volunteer to help veterans and active-duty military have an inner spirit that drives them to continuous service and dedication to others. Those who go “over and above” in service to the veteran community are the ones chosen to receive the honor of being selected as the Veteran of the Month or Veteran Supporter of the Month.

Last month U.S. Army veteran Blake Boles was named Veteran of the Month. He is known throughout the veterans’ community, currently employed as Regional representative and Veterans Affairs Outreach Manager for Nevada Senator Jacky Rosen. Boles served in the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division. He is a member of the North Las Vegas Veterans Council and the founder and president of Battle Buddies of America.

Boles was presented with certificates of recognition from North Las Vegas City Councilmen Richard J. Cherchio. Former Nevada Assembly member Derek Armstrong, who now serves as a Deputy Director in the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, also presented a certificate to Boles. In doing so, he said, “No matter which branch, being a veteran is a brotherhood.” He thanked the awardees on behalf of Governor Steve Sisolak adding, “Nevada is a better place with you.”

After he was presented with the award, Boles told attendees, “We have an amazing [veterans’] community here, one of the best in the country.” He thanked everyone for attending the ceremony, and especially thanked his family, some of whom traveled from out of state. Boles advised the crowd, “If you know someone who deserves this award and recognition, please nominate them.” Boles received a standing ovation when he finished.

The Veteran Supporter of the Month was presented to Wadley Construction and Craig Road Pet Cemetery. The construction firm was represented by President Bill Wadley, and Vice President Erik Remmert.  The construction firm provides no-cost services to the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Wadley addressed the audience and noted his father took part in WWII during D-Day at Omaha Beach. He thanked his guests and told them he was humbled and very appreciative of the honor.
