Nevada Department of Veterans Services to Commemorate Gulf War in Las Vegas Ceremony

LAS VEGAS, NV (November 21st, 2016) — To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Gulf War and the Liberation of Kuwait, the Nevada Department of Veterans Services is holding a wreath laying ceremony at the Nevada State veterans memorial on November 28th at 10:30 A.M. The ceremony will also award Gulf War veterans with a special edition, hardcover book. The book, entitled The Liberation of Kuwait: Honoring the Veterans of Desert Storm, details the war in stunning detail, and includes a message of gratitude from the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Indeed, the Kuwaiti Government is the founding and supporting partner behind the book.
According to a report by the American Legion, almost 700,000 veterans served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm from August 2nd, 1990 to July 31st, 1991. One of those, NDVS Deputy Director Kathleen Dussault, underscores the magnitude of the Gulf War. “The deeds performed by veterans who participated in Kuwait’s liberation, and the beginnings of Gulf War operations, set the stage for the longest wars America has waged, including Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom,” says Dussault, a 34-year Navy veteran and retired admiral. “We celebrate their service and dedication, as well as a willingness to confront unprecedented cultural complexities.”
The ceremony, which is open to the public and free to attend, will be held outside of the Grant Sawyer Building, 555 E Washington Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89101 on November 28th at 10:30 A.M.
