James McCawley Veteran of the Month July 2012

In a ceremony at the Nevada State Veterans Home (NSVH), James McCawley was presented the Veteran of the Month Award for his continued service to veterans.  On behalf of Governor Brian Sandoval, Executive Director Caleb Cage made the presentation at the Nevada State Veterans Home last week.

“Mr. McCawley’s service throughout Clark County and southern Nevada has given me the opportunity to work with him many times over the years.  It is his wide-ranging involvement and commitment to the veteran community that makes it such an honor to have the opportunity to present this award to him,” said Cage.

Mr. McCawley served 18 years in the Army, and has been a resident of and involved in the service to veterans in Nevada since 1979.  He continues to volunteer at the VA Pharmacy and dental clinic as well as serving on the VA ethics committee.  He currently is a member of the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery Advisory Committee and volunteers at NSVH.  Since 2006 he has been involved in the VA Volunteer Service program.  Mr. McCawley also founded the Catholic War Veterans Post 1947 and currently serves as its commander.  Under his direction, Post 1947 has been recognized by the Catholic War Veterans National Headquarters as having the most outstanding welfare program in the nation for the last five years.

“Mr. McCawley’s contributions to veterans are an example of both the need for volunteers and the dedication veterans continue to show for others in the veteran community throughout the state,” said Cage.
