Jerry Finley – Veteran of the Month February 2012

Governor Brian Sandoval proudly presented the Veteran of the Month Award to Jerry Finley for his ongoing service and assist to veterans throughout the state on Wednesday, February 22, 2012. “I have a profound respect for Mr. Finely, for what he’s done for veterans throughout the state,” said Governor Sandoval during the presentation. “I cannot tell you how proud I am to present this award to him today.”

Jerry Finley is the second recipient of the Veteran of the Month, an award which acknowledges the work veterans continue to do to assist and honor those who have served in our military and continue to need assistance. Mr. Finley served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years and retired as a highly decorated CPOMC (E9). Since his retirement, Mr. Finley continues to serve in a variety of capacities addressing veterans’ causes. Through the years he has been a commander or vice commander at various levels of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). He has been serving as the vice-president for the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery Coalition since 2008 and is a current member of the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery Committee.

“Mr. Finley’s contributions have been of great benefit to veterans in our state,” said Executive Director Caleb Cage. “Whether he has sat in an advisory roll or simply used a paint brush to help raise funds for a veterans cause, Mr. Finley continues to serve our country and fellow veterans and it’s our honor to have him in Northern Nevada.”

The Veteran of the Month program is managed by the Nevada Office of Veterans Services (NOVS) under the direction of Executive Director Cage. “Board members of the Veterans Service Commission review nominations and choose a recipient during quarterly meetings for the following three month period,” stated Cage. “Our office is very proud to staff this project on behalf of Governor Sandoval.”
