Richard Walker Announced as First Veteran of the Month Recipient


The first Veteran of the Month recipient was announced in Boulder City, NV during a presentation held at the Nevada State Veterans Home on Saturday January 21, 2012. Executive Director Caleb Cage presented the award to Richard D. Walker for his continued involvement and volunteerism in assisting the veteran community.

After serving in the Air Force for 22 years and retiring in 1982 as a Master Sergeant, Mr. Walker has played a role in the veteran community through a variety of avenues. His continued support of veterans has been seen as a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He continues to participate in veteran events and serves as a director for the Nevada Veterans Assistance League.

“Mr. Walker’s is a model of what this award stands for,” said Cage. “From his service as a driver for the DAV Transportation Network for over six years to volunteering at the Nevada State Veterans Home in Boulder City, he continues to give of his personal time to assist veterans in the southern Nevada communities. It’s an absolute honor to have the opportunity to present this award to him on behalf of Governor Brian Sandoval, the Nevada Office of Veterans Services, and the entire veteran community.”
