Part 1 of the 2023 Military Sexual Trauma (MST) Conference was held on Thursday, February 23 at 1pm. Nearly 50 individuals were in attendance for Part 1 emphasizing the need for continuing education around MST. Part 2 will happen at the end of March. Part 3 is scheduled for April. (Details below.)
Part 1 was facilitated by Benjamin Loew, PhD, ABPP, Acting MST Coordinator, from the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System. The topic of MST was discussed broadly so viewers could understand how MST may impact service members, veterans, and their loved ones.
As the MST Conference progresses, future presenters will dive deeper into working with veterans experiencing MST, as well as the ethical and cultural considerations and military service.
Part 2 discusses further the identification and treatment of MST, cultural sensitivity and ethical considerations take center state. This presentation will dig into the symptoms & common reactions / diagnoses, statistics, treatment options, and the ethical responsibilities of the healthcare professional when caring for survivors of MST. Part 2 will be presented by Michelle Middleton, Nevada National Guard Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program Manager.
This part of the MST Conference will be held on March 30th at 1pm followed by Part 3 on April 20th at 1pm.

One CEU credit is approved through both the Nevada State Board of Nursing and Board of Examiners for Long-Term Care. One CEU is pending through the Board of Social Workers.
