Special Ceremonies to Honor Veteran/Veteran of the Month/Youth Serving Veterans Award Recipients

Congratulations to the Veteran of the Month (VOM), Veteran Supporter of the Month (VSM) and Youth Serving Veterans Award (YSVA) recipients! A special ceremony was held in Carson City on February 28, 2024, to honor and recognize the following recipients:  

• Sean Laycox, U.S. Army and Nevada Army National Guard, VOM for November 2023
• Marlene Merck, U.S. Air Force, VOM for December 2023
• Katherine “Kat” Miller, U.S. Army, VOM for March 2024
• Jim Sutherland, U.S. Navy, VOM for May 2024
• Assistance League of Reno-Sparks, VSM for April 2024   

Lt. Governor Stavros Anthony, Nevada’s Congressional delegation, as well as both the chairs of the Nevada Veterans Services Commission and Women Veterans Advisory Committee helped to honor the recipients.  

Another ceremony is planned in Las Vegas on March 7, 2024, at 10 a.m. in the lobby of the Grant Sawyer building located at 555 E. Washington Avenue. The following recipients will be honored: 

• William Dolan, VOM, April 2024
• Military Officers Association of America, S. Nevada Chapter Yelinek, VSM, March 2024
• Stephanie Helms, VSM, May 2024
• Vincent Ruiz, YSVA, March 2024
