Veterans Identify Issues and Priorities at Veterans Legislative Symposia

Veterans and advocates filled the room at the first of two Veterans Legislative Symposia. The event in Reno was held on March 23 at the Washoe County Senior Center.

The event in Reno, and a second one to be held in Las Vegas on April 6, are designed to empower Nevada’s veterans to identify and prioritize legislative issues that are important to the veterans’ community. Highly ranked priorities are provided to state lawmakers for consideration in the next session of the legislature. Federal issues are provided to Nevada’s Congressional delegation for consideration as well. The two symposia are hosted by NDVS in partnership with the United Veterans Legislative Council (UVLC).

Attendees were provided with an overview of the legislative process and instruction on how to effectively talk with State of Nevada lawmakers. Afterwards, they were then given the opportunity to let their voices be heard by sharing their issues and then having the entire group vote on all the concerns raised to prioritize each item.

The legislative priorities selected in the Reno and upcoming Las Vegas sessions will be posted to our website and shared in the May newsletter, so watch this space!

If you would like to attend the symposium in Las Vegas, simply click HERE to register. Again, the event will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Dula Community Center. Join us for coffee and mingling from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. The program will run from 9:00 a.m. through 11:30 a.m.
