- Nevada Transition Assistance Program (NVTAP)
The Nevada Department of Veteran Services (NDVS) is proud to announce a new initiative designed to swiftly connect our vulnerable veteran population experiencing homelessness with vital services. This program bridges a critical gap in outreach efforts throughout southern Nevada by partnering with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) and their Homeless Outreach Team (HOT)/Multi-Agency Outreach Resource Engagement (MORE) Team.
NDVS team members Amanda Kehrer, Education and Employment Program Manager and Christopher Miannay, Southern Nevada Outreach Officer, were there when this initiative launched in February. They have been on the ground working directly with homeless veterans. The initial deployment in February proved highly successful, connecting veterans with temporary housing through partnerships with local government social services and nonprofit organizations.
This new initiative enables the NDVS team to facilitate expedited claims benefits processing and ensure access to crucial medical and mental health services. This program marks a significant step forward in NDVS’s commitment to providing comprehensive, wrap-around services to Nevada’s veterans. By collaborating with LVMPD, NDVS is strengthening its ability to serve as an umbrella organization, connecting veterans with all available resources. Our team is committed to continually improving and striving to be the best in the industry when it comes to serving those who’ve served us!
