The Position
Registered Nurses provide general or specialized professional nursing care in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
The Nevada Department of Veterans Services, Southern Nevada State Veterans Home, located in Boulder City, NV, is currently recruiting for a Registered Nurse 5, Nurse Manager. Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing Services, this position manages a nursing neighborhood within the Home. Duties include, but are not limited to: coordinating resident care in accordance with regulatory requirements; participating in weekly interdisciplinary team meetings and resident/family care conferences; contributing in the quality assurance (QA) process of the Home; staffing budgeted hours; assisting and relieving other nurse managers; acting as house supervisor as needed; investigating complaints; participating in the interview and orientation processes and evaluating the performance of assigned staff; teaching in-services and skill fairs; and other related duties as assigned. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and three years of professional nursing experience, one year of which included providing patient care in a skilled nursing facility (e.g., convalescent or nursing home) or ensuring regulatory compliance of skilled nursing facilities; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
A Bachelor’s degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate’s degree in nursing and one year of experience.
Per NRS 632.305, the Nevada State Board of Nursing may, after verifying that an applicant meets all licensure requirements, issue an Interim Permit authorizing the applicant to practice nursing until the results of their examination for licensure are received. The Interim Permit is for a period not to exceed 90 days and is immediately revoked if the candidate fails the examination. Any person working under the authority of an Interim Permit may not represent themselves as a licensed registered nurse. Passing the licensure examination is a requirement for continuing employment in the Nurse I Class.
Out of state applicants must have a temporary license issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment.
Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
