K-9 Corps Completes Fourth Session

The K-9 Corps, a peer support program offered by NDVS and Truckee Meadows Dog Training Club, just completed its fourth session! According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Peer support groups such as the K9 Corps can help you to feel better in any number of ways, such as connecting to others who understand you, learning to trust other people, and hearing about helpful new perspectives from others.

Veterans that participate in the program are provided 10 weeks of dog training that covers topics like obedience, agility, and other fun activities like scent work. Camaraderie and appreciation for a common love of dogs are evident throughout the program, plus the dogs seem to have fun learning and engaging! For the fourth session, four dogs graduated from the K-9 Corps and received the Canine Good Citizen Award. These graduates are now well versed in many things, including communication with their owner and small demands that demonstrate patience.
