This Month Marks First NVNG Suicide Prevention Forum

The NDVS Suicide Prevention Program Manager and the Nevada National Guard Resilience, Risk Reduction, and Suicide Prevention Team have planned the first Nevada National Guard (NVNG) Suicide Prevention Forum that will take place on World Suicide Prevention Day, Saturday, September 10th in Las Vegas.

This forum will bring together local and national speakers to discuss suicide prevention from a whole health perspective, including topics on family resilience, financial health, connectedness, work-life balance, and more.

The collaborative work surrounding this forum is an extension of the long-standing partnership between NDVS and the NVNG surrounding suicide prevention. In 2021, NDVS received a national award, the Abraham Lincoln Pillar of Excellence Award, from the National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs (NASDVA) for the 2019 Operation Mission Ready program. The Truckee Meadows Mayor’s Challenge team coordinated with the NVNG in creating and implementing the program.

The Pillar of Excellence award was created jointly by the NASDVA and the VA in 2021 to recognize state-implemented best practices that other states could use as a benchmark.
