DMV Changes You Need to Know

If you have an upcoming visit to the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), take note. On August 15, 2022, the DMV ended most walk-in services at its six major metro offices and switched to an appointment-only business model. Bottom line: the DMV is encouraging you to go online and not wait IN line!

Highlights of the changes:

  • This impacts the DMV’s metro locations in Carson City, Henderson, Las Vegas, and Reno. Now, at the six locations in those metro areas, only customers with an appointment will be served Monday through Friday.
  • Walk-ins will be accepted only for vehicle movement permits, license plate drop-offs, driver’s license reinstatements, past-due debts, kiosk transactions and vehicle inspections.
  • Walk-in services on Saturdays will remain the same.
  • Offices open on Saturdays will continue to issue return tickets for all transactions until they reach capacity.
  • The DMV’s commercial and rural offices are not affected by this change.
