Veterans Community Councils


Through the efforts of State and local organizations, and individual persons, many local communities have established Veterans Community Councils – bodies comprised of local leaders and stakeholders with a mission to identify the needs and resources available to service members, veterans, their families and dependents in their community.

North Las Vegas Veterans Community Commission

Mission is to assist local veterans with reintegration into the City of North Las Vegas community and accessing all available and applicable resources and services. The VCC is to act as an advisory committee to the Mayor and City Council on matters related to the Veterans in the City of North Las Vegas in the areas of:

  • Wellness
  • Education
  • Employment Outcomes
  • Relocation Specialist areas

Reno Community Council

Project Hero:

  • Project Hero is a groundbreaking national non-profit organization dedicated to helping Veterans and First Responders affected by PTSD, TBI and injury achieve rehabilitation, recovery and resilience in their daily lives and increasing awareness to combat the national mental health emergency posed by PTSD and TBI.
  • Veterans wishing to participate in Project HERO can use their own bicycles. The City of Reno program is unique in its ability to rent bicycles, which were purchased through a GE funding grant, to Veteran participants (6 months, no cost).

Other programs involve..

  • Four Star Alliance:
    • who provide therapeutic and community based recreation services to veterans and their family members.
  • Military Sports Camp:
    • Annually the City of Reno with the generous support of its presenting sponsors and local adaptive sports programs host 15 disabled veterans and injured service members and their spouse/guest for a multi-day Military Sports Camp. All skill levels are welcome.
  • Fit but Not Forgotten:
    • City of Reno hosts weekly community based fitness class in our facility weight room.
  • Military to the Mountains:
    • Seven Injured US Military Veterans are trained for nine weeks at the Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center and Double Diamond Athletic Club, preparing them for a week of skiing at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows in California from March 17- 23, 2019.
