NDVS Artifacts Lock Box

The Nevada Department of Veterans Services has a number of artifacts in its possession that we would like to offer to veteran service organizations.

As authorized under Senate Bill (SB) 70 in 2017, the Nevada Department of Veterans Services (NDVS) may take possession of any abandoned or unclaimed artifacts and other property that have military or historical value for safekeeping, left on state property. When an item that may have military or historical value is not claimed after 30 days and has been transferred to the Deputy Director of Operations (DD-OPS), the DD-OPS will contact the Nevada State Museum or the Nevada Historical Society to determine if the artifact or other property has military or historical value and is worthy of preservation. Nevada State Museum and the Nevada Historical Society have been contacted regarding the artifacts currently in our possession and per policy chose several items to be displayed at their facilities.

We still have numerous artifacts that the Veteran Service Organizations of Nevada may wish to obtain and display in their facilities.  Based on our policy, we are now at a stage where we can offer these artifacts to the VSOs.

Each Service Organization must assign one individual as their representative for this process, to ensure multiple requests are not submitted on behalf of one Service Organization. While you may have multiple individuals reviewing the pictures, the individual appointed by your organization will be the only one allowed to make the request to ensure it is an official request from your organization.

Once your organization determines who will be requesting the artifacts, an email should be sent to rushe@veterans.nv.gov to provide NDVS with the name and contact information to have on file prior to receiving any requests.

View pictures and descriptions of the artifactsOnce you have identified an artifact you would like to request, fill out and submit this Artifact Request Form (PDF), indicating which artifact(s) you are interested in obtaining.

Submit this form by email or mail to: rushe@veterans.nv.gov or

Deputy Director of Operations
Attn: Artifacts
Nevada Department of Veterans Services
555 E. Washington Ave, Suite 3200
Las Vegas, NV 89101

All requests must be received at the Deputy Director’s office no later than October 1, 2020. At that time, all requests will be reviewed.

Once all applications have been reviewed and you have been selected to receive an artifact(s), NDVS will notify you of the date, place and time to pick up the item(s).  You will be required to acknowledge in writing that your organization agrees not to sell the requested item or transfer it to another agency or person for purposes other than the respectful display or preservation of the item.  This form will be provided to your organization designee at the time the artifact(s) are picked up and will list the approved items to be provided to your organization.
