Decorated Veteran and Active Volunteer Daniel Peterson Has Died


Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of decorated veteran and active volunteer, Mr. Daniel Peterson. Mr. Peterson passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

Mr. Peterson was named July 2017 Veteran of the Month. He was a longtime member and served as commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 730 in Henderson. He was also a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America in Henderson. 

Additionally, he was a strong supporter of the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery where had served on the cemetery’s Advisory Committee for nearly two years and attended countless Unaccompanied Veterans Burial Ceremonies.

Mr. Peterson was also an active volunteer with the city of Henderson where he was the primary catalyst behind Henderson being named a Purple Heart City. In addition to his duties as Commander of his MOPH Chapter, he also coordinated activities with the Commander of the Junior ROTC at Basic High School in Henderson.

He retired from the U.S. Army achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 5. From October 1969 until June 1992, he served as a 152FF AH-64 helicopter pilot. During his service, Mr. Peterson earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters (OLC), Air Medal – 27th Award, Air Medal with “V” Device, Army Commendation Medal 2nd OLC, Army Achievement Medal 2nd OLC, Purple Heart, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Service Stars, Valorous Unit Award, Overseas Service Ribbon with number 1, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal and Master Army Aviator Badge.  He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Services for Mr. Peterson are set for January 16 at 1:00 p.m. at Palm Mortuary, 800 Boulder Highway.
