The Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony marks a major milestone: the end of major construction. The Home is not yet open! The new facility must first receive its State and federal credentials. The new Home is expected to begin accepting new residents in the spring of 2019.
The Home will be owned by the State of Nevada. The Nevada Department of Veterans Services will oversee it. It will be managed by Avalon Health Care.

Funding/Timeline
- 2006 – Nevada New Home Construction Grant Application submitted to the VA
- 2013 – Governor Brian Sandoval recommended and the State Legislature passed AB 505 to begin design/planning
- 2015 – Governor Sandoval included required State matching funds of $14.1 million in his State Fiscal Year 2016-2017 budget. Nevada lawmakers approved his budget.
- 2017 – Estimates show the construction cost for the new home rises $1-$2 million per year due to inflation
- 2017 – At Governor’s urging, State lawmakers agree to “advance” funding of the federal portion of the project, $33.5-million
- 2017 – Groundbreaking ceremony held on July 17, 2017
- 2018 – The State of Nevada learns the new veterans home made the top tier on the VA’s New Facilities Construction Grants on April 13, 2018
- Federal portion to build the home is $33.5 million. State matching (35% requirement) is $14.1 million. Total price is more than $47 million
