Project Managers perform professional services in planning, coordinating, directing and managing the activities of construction projects and capital improvement programs; develop design concepts; determine cost estimates and budgets; negotiate reviews and modify contracts, agreements, architectural/engineering plans, specifications, and schedules as appropriate.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. Under general direction of the Director, the Nevada Department of Veterans Services (NDVS) Project Manager II performs complex project management duties involving the planning, coordination, and oversight of the design, construction, and improvement of state facilities, with a specialized focus on Veterans’ services. This position requires professional licensure as an architect or engineer and carries substantial authority over major capital improvement projects. The duty station for this position will be determined based on the selected candidate and may be located in either Reno or Las Vegas, Nevada. The incumbent will apply architectural and engineering principles, independent judgment, and technical expertise to ensure the delivery of high-quality, timely, and cost-effective infrastructure that supports Nevada’s growing veteran population.
The Nevada Department of Veteran Services (NVDS) is seeking to fill a Project Manager 2 for the upcoming construction of the Southern Nevada State Veterans Home. This position will be located in Reno or Las Vegas, depending on the candidate chosen. The position will be responsible for providing oversight for the VA State Home Construction Grant (SHCG) project at the Southern Nevada State Veterans Home, and ensuring all phases meet federal and state standards; leading the development of a back-of-house proposal in support of a new SHCG submission for facility expansion at the Southern Nevada Veterans Home; managing all aspects of the SHCG funding for the new Veterans Home project in North Las Vegas, including coordination with architects, engineers, and contractors; developing, managing, and monitoring Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) across the department, from concept to completion; serving as the department’s primary liaison with Nevada State Public Works and coordinating all current and future CIP-related activities; acting as point of contact or the liaison with the Federal Department of Veterans Affairs on all State Home Construction Grant and Veterans Cemetery Expansion projects; developing and implementing strategic plans for the expansion of veteran services, including the construction of new facilities and facility build-outs to accommodate growth and enhance service delivery; and performing other duties as assigned.
