Join Us for a Special Memorial Day Virtual Event

The global pandemic has changed our world and has touched each and every one of us. But this virus has not changed our values or resolve to come together to honor and remember the men and women who lost their lives serving our country.

Our annual Memorial Day ceremonies in northern and southern Nevada draw thousands of attendees. The Flag-In events, held on Saturday prior to Memorial Day, also draw crowds at both of our veterans’ memorial cemeteries.

This Memorial Day we anticipate being in Phase One of the Governor’s “Roadmap to Recovery.” In this phase, gatherings cannot exceed 10 persons, therefore we will not be conducting in-person Memorial Day ceremonies at our cemeteries in Fernley and Boulder City.  Our cemeteries remain open for visitation, but we will be rigorously enforcing social distancing and ask that you wear face coverings if you visit.

However, even though we will not have a  large public gathering, Memorial Day will be observed by the State of Nevada.  With the help of veterans’ organizations and veterans across the State, we have developed two videos to help memorialize the fallen. One was videotaped in southern Nevada at the Nevada Veterans Memorial and features recognizable southern Nevada veterans and key personalities. The second video features the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery along with recognizable northern Nevada veterans and key figures. You may choose to watch them both.

This year Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 25th. On that day, you will be able to watch the video from the front page of our website: www.veterans.nv.gov
