Message from the Director

Hi everyone!

While many felt that last weekend was the beginning of summer, our veterans’ community knew what the weekend truly represented, honoring our fallen heroes.

Last weekend, NDVS hosted solemn Memorial Day remembrance ceremonies at our two State Veteran Memorial Cemeteries in Boulder City and Fernley. I’d like to thank the volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure our fallen brothers and sisters were respectfully honored in the ceremonies and events held at our two cemeteries. These ceremonies went off without any difficulties and the volunteers should be congratulated for a job well done.  I’d also like to thank our staff at these cemeteries for the efforts they made to prepare for this weekend and throughout the year.

With summer starting, the 82nd session of the Nevada Legislature is quicky coming to an end. Soon, we will provide a report regarding bills that were prioritized by veterans, military and supporters at the legislative symposia in March 2022 as well as other bills that assist veterans and military personnel.  Please watch for that report once the legislative session is complete.

As we launch into the summer months ahead, I want to remind you that June is designated as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness (PTSD) month, with June 27th designated as PTSD Awareness Day. Sadly, too many veterans with PTSD don’t seek treatment or use the resources that are now available. I highly encourage you to review the treatment options available under Health and Wellness in this newsletter.

Finally, we are ramping up our Nevada Transition Assistance Program (NVTAP) to support the men and women who are transitioning from the military to their new civilian life. Please check out the article in this newsletter regarding our next conference!

As always, I truly want to thank you for your continued support of Nevada’s military community and our veterans and their families. There is a lot of great information in this newsletter, so please take the time to read about all the great programs we have here in Nevada.

Have a great summer!
