Message From Director Colonel Mary Devine

I cannot tell you how excited and humbled I am to serve Nevada’s veterans, service members, and their families as NDVS director. I strongly believe there is no greater honor than to serve the men and women who have served our country! I know I’m just two weeks into this new role, but already I feel at home, and I thank you for the warm welcome!

For those who don’t know me, please allow me to briefly introduce myself.  I’m deeply rooted within the Nevada National Guard as well as our great State of Nevada. During my 36-year career service with the guard, I’ve been blessed to receive great training and mentorship to be able to rise to the rank of Colonel. In my most recent assignment I served as Chief of Staff to the Adjutant General, serving directly under Major General Ondra Berry. Prior to that role, I served as the U.S. Property and Fiscal Officer, overseeing $1 billion in federal assets. I have also served as Brigade Commander in the 991st Aviation Troop Command and as a Battalion Commander in the 422nd Expeditionary Signal Battalion.

As a life-long, career public servant, I also feel it is important to be engaged with my community. I’m involved in activities through Grace Church Reno, and I also serve as Chair on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra. I see my new role at NDVS as another way to continue to humbly serve my state, my community, as well as you.

I landed at NDVS at an incredible time. I was able to participate in the first 2024 Nevada Veterans Legislative Symposia on March 23rd. I’m looking forward to seeing and meeting more of you at the next symposium in Las Vegas at the Dula Community Center on April 6th. (If you haven’t registered for the Las Vegas event, you may do so HERE.) More NDVS-hosted events are coming up in the weeks ahead. You may learn more about them and register to attend through this newsletter.

Finally, I’m really looking forward to meeting and working with you. Until then, thank you for your service and I look forward to this amazing opportunity to serve you!

Sincerely,
Colonel Mary Devine
