Message from Director Devine

Dear Veterans, Advocates, and Supporters,

I hope the summer is going well for you and your family. Over the next several weeks, you will be hearing more from me about several significant events of importance to Nevada’s veterans and veteran community.

One of those events involves the relocation of the Nevada State Veterans Memorial from the Grant Sawyer Building in Las Vegas to a new and different location. I know this is a cliff hanger, but I expect to have news I can share with you very soon. This new location is necessary because the State of Nevada moved its offices out of the Grant Sawyer Building. The move will ensure the memorial remains in an area that is highly visible, as well as provide easy and safe access for tourists and locals. The new location will also have adequate oversight, good lighting, and protection from vandalism. Stay tuned for the announcement on the memorial’s new home, coming soon!

Next month, we will share information about a series of NDVS-hosted round-table discussions with our partners. We want to grow our ability to serve as the hub and as collaborators for all key veterans’ programs, services, and resources in Nevada. We want to make sure we have everyone represented and sitting at the table. I will be sending out a communication to the State Commanders to lock in dates and review topics in the weeks ahead. More to come on this too!

I would like to thank everyone involved in the 2024 Veterans Legislative Symposia, held last spring in Reno and Las Vegas. This gathering allowed the veterans’ community to come together to identify and prioritize legislative priorities for the upcoming session of the Nevada legislature. The final report is ready for review. It may be viewed HERE

Finally, we are making great strides in the remodeling project involving the Southern Nevada State Veterans Home. We are also moving forward with plans to build an additional State Veterans Home in the Las Vegas area as well as potentially build another new home in rural, eastern Nevada. Our work with the architects and obtaining both the state and federal funding for these projects continue to progress.

I look forward to sharing more news with you soon. Thank you again for all your help and support. It is greatly appreciated!

Respectfully,

Col. Mary Devine
