NDVS Earns a Sixth National “Pillar of Excellence Award” for Innovation in Suicide Prevention  

NDVS recently received its sixth “Abraham Lincoln Pillar of Excellence Award for Innovation in Suicide Prevention” from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the National Association for State Directors of Veterans Affairs for its “Veteran Care Pocket Card” initiative.  

The national award recognizes state veterans’ departments or agencies for outstanding delivery of care for veterans and their families. The “Veteran Care Pocket Card" initiative was created by NDVS in partnership with a wide array of Nevada nonprofits and organizations to place resource information at the fingertips of healthcare providers.  

The resources provided include health care centers, emergency contacts, military toxic exposure awareness and assessment information, as well as suicide prevention information. More than 1,000 pocket cards have been distributed within the past year through the department’s key partners and the NDVS outreach team,
