Northern Nevada State Veterans Home Executive Chef Receives Prestigious Award

(Sparks, NV) – Northern Nevada State Veterans Home (NNSVH) Executive Chef, Greg Parsley, recently received The Perry Foundation’s Endeavor Award for Innovation in Dining. The award recognizes a Skilled Nursing Facility or Assisted Living Community for embracing a person-centered approach to dining excellence while maintaining standards to ensure resident health and wellness.

Nevada Department of Veterans Services (NDVS) Director Kat Miller said, “The talents of Parsley, combined with a new design concept at the home have brought about a unique dining experience for residents, family and community supporters of the home. The food service goes well above and beyond the requirements for menu planning, dietary management, as well as meeting federal and state health requirements.”

The design of the home includes a main kitchen and six satellite kitchens that serve food in six dining rooms located in each section where residents live within the home. Additionally, the home provides restaurant style dining at the Manzanita Grill, which is separate from the dining areas. The Grill offers multiple menu choices that could easily compete with any community restaurant in the Reno/Sparks area.

Through Parsley’s work and passion, residents of the home have several dining choices. They can eat in their household dining area, where their food is freshly prepared. They can choose to order off the menu at the Grill. Residents can also request meals outside the normal meal times, even if its 2:00 in the morning! Parsley has even taken the extra step of placing photos on menus for residents who are unable to speak.

In addition to the dining areas, Parsley also manages the specialized event snacks and beverages in the Eagle Sports Bar and Cui-Ui Coffee Bistro, located inside the Town Hall portion of the home.
