Volunteer Heroes in the Southern Nevada State Veterans Home

As Covid-19 challenged our state’s medical system Governor Sisolak directed the creation of the Battle Born Medical Corps on April 1, 2020. The intent of the directive was to help support the burden placed on active healthcare personnel. This directive allowed for health care providers, behavioral health professionals, and administrators already trained, licensed or certified from inside and outside of the state and country to be allowed to register to help provide care to patients.

The directive allowed for our Veterans Home in Boulder City to take in volunteer healthcare providers to support clinical needs. These volunteers have been an amazing resource for the home and the residents as they were able to help alleviate the pressure staff faced in these difficult times.

A second support is the Feeding Assistant program. An outreach was conducted seeking paid volunteers in support of a needed companion type role. NDVS prepared and submitted to DPBH a Feeding Assistant Training Program. This Program was approved and implemented within two weeks.

Our Feeding Assistants have also been a great resource in helping our staff ensure our residents meet their appropriate dietary needs and have helped in connecting our residents to their families via video chat platforms.

Our volunteers have done an amazing job in connecting with our residents and we are thankful for their selflessness and commitment to caring for our veterans.
