Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 27 this year and already, preparations are underway to ensure the Southern and Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemeteries are ready.
SNVMC Supervisor Chris Naylor confirms members of his grounds staff are very busy right now installing new sod in the active burial sections. They’re also doing all the maintenance necessary to keep the grounds beautiful.
The cemetery has several events and ceremonies scheduled for the month of May. Everyone is invited to attend. The scheduled events are as follows:
SNVMC leadership continues interviewing and recruiting to fill vacant positions. Two new hires began employment on March 4, 2024, filling the two remaining vacant Grounds Equipment Operator 2 positions. One position, for Grounds Maintenance Worker 4, remains open. Applicants may contact Kristen Geddes at geddesk@veterans.nv.gov.
In Fernley, Memorial Day preparations are also underway at the NNVMC. Flag-In Day is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. The Memorial Day ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m.
